June '07: Welcome to My World!

Here's a few things I found interesting June 2007:

Elizabeth Edwards Kicks Elephant Ass

(in a very, very polite way)

It's so nice to see a classy lady put Coulter in her place ... and she did it with style! America needs to talk about issues, not vile personal attacks.

How The Con Works

Atop the table on the sidewalk are three cups.

The man puts a ball under the cup labeled "Iraq".
Next to it are "Iran" and "Korea".

"The first round is free!" he says. "It'll pay for itself! Trust me!"

So you say, ok, I'll play.

He moves the cups around, back and forth.
When they stop, you pick "Iraq".
That was easy!

"Ready to play?"

So you plonk down the ante.
$100 Billion dollars.
100,000 cases of PTSD.
10,000 wounded.
1000 dead.

America's safety goes under a cup. He moves them around and around.

Pick the cup.

Wait! It's not there!
Try another cup?

"Sure, ante up again."
More dollars.
More PTSD
More wounded.
More dead.

Missed again! But now you're sure you've got it.

Ante up again.
Missed it again!
But next time, you will win for sure!

The game goes on.
It will go on as long as you care to play.

Why?

You are an honest, decent citizen.
You do not understand how cons work.
The ball is not under any of the cups.
The ball is in his hand all the time.

As long as the game continues, we keep giving him money.
Why would he want the game to stop?

Why do we want to keep playing his game?

Vice-President Declares He's Not in the Government!

Vice President Cheney exempted his office from the presidential order that establishes government-wide procedures for safeguarding classified national security information. The Vice President asserts that his office is not an “entity within the executive branch.”

As described in a letter from Chairman Waxman to the Vice President, the National Archives protested the Vice President’s position in letters written in June 2006 and August 2006. When these letters were ignored, the National Archives wrote to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in January 2007 to seek a resolution of the impasse. The Vice President’s staff responded by seeking to abolish the agency within the Archives that is responsible for implementing the President’s executive order.

Darfur Wall

Four hundred thousand numbers cover the The Darfur Wall at http://darfurwall.org  . Each represents a victim of genocide in Darfur, Sudan. By donating $1 or more, you can turn a number from dark gray to brilliant white and honor one lost life.

The Darfur Wall has raised over $50,000 from donors in 30 countries. 100% of the proceeds benefit four Darfur relief organizations: Doctors Without Borders, Save Darfur, Save the Children, and the Sudan Aid Fund.  Darfur Wall

What I Believe (2)

As a liberal, I am optimistic. I believe that American ingenuity & know-how is up to the job of changing from an economy based on waste to one based on renewablity.

It means jobs. Lots of jobs.

It means long-run security. No more oil wars. No more garbaging up the planet we're leaving to our kids.

But we have to want to. Who wouldn't want to?

Support the Troops - End the War

It's not complicated. Our people  should not be dying in Iraq just to ensure the Iraqis pass an Oil Law to our liking. You can get a free bumper sticker at: http://johnedwards.com/supportthetroopsendthewar/choose?ref=m2

And you know what? Just because John Edwards gets an expensive haircut, doesn't mean he's not right on this. Our greatest president of the 20th century was FDR - and he was 'way richer than Edwards. - 05/30/07
