Soon George W Bush will announce a plan to "surge" troops in to Baghdad, as a
way to stave off disaster.
Only briefly reported is a key part of the plan: to require the Iraqi National Government to match Bush's surge, battalion-for-battalion. That is a good idea on its face, but it ignores one simple reality: the Iraqi National Government doesn't have the troops.
The plan is for Maliki to bring in two battalions of Kurdish troops, the Pesh
Merga (according to reports in the NYTimes). Any fool knows that just ain't gonna work ...

The Horse and Mule live thirty years
Yet nothing know of wines nor beers.
The Goat and Sheep at twenty die,
And never taste of Scotch or Rye.
A Cow drinks water by the tonne;
At eighteen years, 'tis mostly done.
The Cat in milk and water soaks,
And in fifteen years or so - she croaks!
For thirteen years the loyal Dogge
Will never touch his master's Grog.
The modest, sober, bone-dry Hen
Lays Eggs for Nog, and dies at Ten.
All Animals are strictly Dry,
They Sinless live, and swiftly Die.
But sinful, Ginful, Rum-soaked Men
Are good for Three-score Years and Ten.
And Some of Us (though very Few)
Stay pickled 'til we're ninety-two.

Congratulations to Speaker Pelosi. Let's give America's problem a thumpin':
We kept score and the Democrats did it! Six promises made and six promises kept:
In
2001 and again in 2005, we saw one recovering drug addict swear in another
recovering drug addict as president. Each would hypocritically attack their
fellow drug addicts, seeking to jail them instead of providing the treatment
that they got. Only in America!
After
being out of print for 190 years, William Sampson's Memoirs are now available at
http://cafepress.com/rewinn . Sampson

Catholics. He came to America on July 4, 1806 and became a leader in promoting
human rights and religious under our Constitution.
