Support The Troops For Real

Every patriot supports our troops, even as we righteously disdain the lying bastard politicians who sent them to Iraq. But "support" is not putting yellow ribbons on your SUV or trolling the internet; "support" is doing something real.

Hero Quilts

American Hero Quilts were born out of the love and compassion of one determined Washington State woman. Her dream is that each of our injured troops returning home from war through Madigan Army Medical Hospital and other military hospitals,  receive a "hug" of appreciation. These "hugs" are exceptional  patriotic, heirloom quality quilts. Each is unique, created by many loving hands, and many are long-arm quilted by the creator of this project.

Support the Troops - End the War

It's not complicated. Our people  should not be dying in Iraq just to ensure the Iraqis pass an Oil Law to our liking. You can get a free bumper sticker at: http://johnedwards.com/supportthetroopsendthewar/choose?ref=m2

And you know what? Just because John Edwards gets an expensive haircut, doesn't mean he's not right on this. Our greatest president of the 20th century was FDR - and he was 'way richer than Edwards. - 05/30/07

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is a leader in supporting the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families. Begun in 2000 under the auspices of the Intrepid Museum Foundation, and established as an independent not-for-profit organization in 2003, the Fund has provided close to $60 million in support for the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation, and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans. These efforts are funded entirely with donations from the public, and hundreds of thousands of individuals have contributed to the Fund. 100% of contributions raised by the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund go towards these programs; all administrative expenses are underwritten by the Fund’s Trustees. Sew Much Comfort:

http://www.sewmuchcomfort.org/

"American military personnel are serving our country in a variety of dangerous situations and locations. As a result of discharging their duties, a number of them are seriously wounded or injured. Modern medical technology is having great success saving the lives of these hero's; however, medicine doesn't address some of their basic needs, such as clothing that will accommodate medical devices and situations - braces, fixators, casts, prosthetics and burns. Many of the wounded troops are left with a hospital gown as their only clothing option.

"Sew Much Comfort; a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization is filling the "adaptive clothing" need for these special patients. Our mission is to design, create and deliver customized clothing for these brave troops. Adaptive clothing accommodates their medical devices and situations, provides ease of use, personal independence and minimizes the visual impact of their medical condition. The goal is provide each soldier with an individually designed and tailored wardrobe of adaptive clothing, in order to provide them comfort and maintain their dignity, thereby facilitating the healing process.

"This project is dependent on the generosity and skill of countless Americans who wish to show their support to the wounded soldiers who have given so much of themselves in serving this country. Please help us give these heroes a tangible symbol of our support for them in all phases of their recovery from battlefield to home."

Operation Helmet

http://www.operation-helmet.org/

OPERATION HELMET provides helmet upgrade kits free of charge to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Our forces are issued kevlar helmets that offers the best protection known in the Military from bullets and small frags. That was the main danger in previous combat engagements and is still an important defense now. However, new elements have entered the picture, that of IED's (roadside bombs) and other explosives which these helmets were not designed to defend against. The blast wave, large frags carried thereon and the trooper being tumbled along the ground or inside a vehicle is producing brain injury ranging from concussion to death or permanent disability if the blast is survivable.

Petition VA Sec. Nicholson to Increase Mental Health Staffing

According to a report prepared for the United States House of Representatives Committee on Veterans' Affairs, thirty percent of surveyed Vet Centers said that they need more staff.

- 100% of the surveyed Vet Centers have seen a significant increase in outreach and services for OIF/OEF veterans

- 20% of the surveyed Vet Centers has taken or will take actions to manage this increase, including 'limiting services and establishing wait lists'

- The same report concluded that 'the Administration's failure to adequately increase staffing and other resources for Vet Centers has put their capacity to meet the needs of veterans and their families at risk.'

Take your pick; there's no shortage of need since the bastards in the White House feel tax cuts for their rich buddies is more important than caring for the troops:
